SYN is a synchronization request packet on the Internet. SYN means “together” in ancient Greek. SYN is the synapsis. Synapses are the connections within our neural network where nerve impulses are transmitted from one neuron to another. These nerve impulses are triggered by the brain, and in contemporary society they do not just come from physical relationships, but more and more come from virtual ones as well. SYN means to represent an artificial neural system as an interactive installation that is activated by internet data exchange. The acrylic artificial nervous system uses video mapping technology and social networking to function as a postmodern social brain. With a simple tweet, a participant initiates an audiovisual animation by activating the sculpture with a mobile device, thereby simulating the activity of a central nervous system.
