The viewer is confronted by a frame of spindles sourced from a mill. Miles of thread spill from the spindles to points on the frame and floor, forming shards of color that appear in constant motion. Audio archive recordings of the memories of mill workers and the sound of machinery build and diminish as a reminder of the rhythms of mill life. Loudspeakers hang glowing from the ceiling, inviting visitors to pause below each to hear more detail. Thread drawn from the frame forms a multi-layered screen showing a film of movement inspired by the repetition of mill machinery that appears to hang in space. A replica mill window offers a fixed vantage point to view the film and a gentle reminder that this is only a glimpse into a now largely hidden world.
