THE HISTORY OF THE MOSCOW INTERNATIONAL BIENNALE FOR YOUNG ART
Founders: The Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow, National Centre for Contemporary Arts (NCCA), Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) The Biennale is the new format of the annual «Qui Vive?» festival of young art (that was held by the National Centre for Contemporary Arts (NCCA) every year from 2002 to 2006, in collaboration with the «Free Workshop» school of contemporary art of the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA)). The Biennale project was jointly developed by the National Centre for Contemporary Art (NCCA) and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA). They were joined by partners, institutions and independent curators, interested in the development of young art. The Biennale’s task is to support and stimulate creative initiatives by artists of the new generation and also to present works of new art to a wider public. On June 24 and 25, 4th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art began. 3069 applications by artists under 35 from 84 countries of the world were submitted for the competition, which lasted from November 2013 through March 2014. David Elliott, Artistic Director of the Biennale, proposed the motto A Time for Dreams as the general theme, and curated the main Biennale project, which presented works by 83 artists from 32 countries of the world.

The educational program of the Biennale, curated by Antonio Geusa and coordinated by Ekaterina Razdumina, is entitled Wise Advice, and aims at helping young artists to find answers to various questions that concern their creative growth and career development. |
